The archipelago of the Aeolian Islands, in the province of Messina, is made up of seven splendid sister islands: Lipari, Panarea, Vulcano, Stromboli, Salina, Alicudi, Filicudi and some islets and rocks emerging from a blue and crystalline sea. The archipelago is characterized by a wild and unspoiled nature, with Stromboli and Vulcano still active, a destination every year for tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world. Culture, history, tastes and smells mix with a landscape enchanted by the celestial sea. Lipari, inhabited since the Paleolithic times, houses a large medieval castle, now converted into a museum. Vulcano, famous for its black sand beaches but above all for the presence of thermal springs whose curative benefits for the skin are known all over the world. In Stromboli the landscape is certainly different from the other islands; the volcanic rock prevails over the vegetation, with many caves and iron formations that give a particular shape to the island. Moored in the harbour, in the evening you can witness the amazing spectacle of the bioluminescence of its sea, made luminous by the proliferation of unicellular organisms containing luciferin. Amicably it is identified as “Iddu” (him in Sicilian), one of the most active volcanoes in the world, in the evening, during the period of activity you can witness the eruptions that occur every 15/20 minutes.
